Our first aim with our beginners salsa courses is to make it FUN! Salsa is a very social activity and great exercise. You don't need any previous dance experience as we have a complete beginners course which will give you the absolute best foundations in learning salsa! As salsa is a social dance it is standard to rotate partners in all classes so whether you come on your own, with a partner or with friends, everyone gets to dance!

In our 4 week Beginners (Level 1) course you will be taken through all the basic fundamentals of dancing salsa including the basic salsa rhythm, the basic steps and footwork, and foundation partnerwork.

We run courses on Tuesday & Thursday evenings. Your course fee includes one class per week, so if you miss your usual lesson you can join the class on the other night. And of course you are more than welcome to come both nights - just pay our usual drop-in fee for your extra class! More info on the FAQ page.

At the end of the 4 weeks, students can repeat the course to consolidate their understanding of the subjects covered. If you and your teacher feel you have a good grasp of the basics, you will move onto the Level 2 class which is attended on a weekly drop-in basis. Your teacher will help guide your progress.

We encourage students on the Beginners courses to stay for the evening (although this is entirely optional). We have a supervised practice session from 9-10pm for beginners & Levels 2&3. This is your opportunity to practice what you've learnt with others who are early in their salsa development. There is a teacher on hand during this session to help and answer any questions. It is participating in 'social' dancing that really helps to accelerate your learning, so we couldn't recommend it enough! On Thursdays there is also another practice session for all levels from 10-11pm. You can carry on dancing, just watch, or socialize! Everyone at the Academy is very friendly and willing to practice with people from all levels (we were all beginners once!). A full timetable of each evening can be found here.

Before your course starts, you are welcome to come and visit the Academy. You will get a good feel for the style we dance by watching the classes and social dancing. There are always staff available to meet you and answer any queries you may have. For address and directions, click here.
